President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, this Wednesday nominated Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera to the position of ambassador to Panama.
Trump described Cabrera as “a fierce fighter for America First principles” which he said has been instrumental in driving economic growth and promoting international partnerships.
“Few understand Latin American politics as well as Kevin – he will do a FANTASTIC job representing our nation’s interests in Panama!” Trump said on his social media site Truth Social.

Trump threatens to retake Panama Canal
The announcement of his choice as ambassador was made after , which was administered by the United States for decades before being handed over to Panama in 1999.
Trump said the Central American country, with which the US has had diplomatic relations since 1903, is “robbing us at the Panama Canal beyond their wildest dreams.”
In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump accused Chinese soldiers of illegally operating the canal and “always making sure that the United States invests billions of dollars in ‘repairs’ but has absolutely nothing to say about ‘anything. ‘”.

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino said China has no influence on the management of the canal.
China does not control or manage the canal, but a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison Holdings has long managed two ports located at the canal’s Caribbean and Pacific entrances.
