Company will continue to operate trips to other destinations, including Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan
The company announced this Friday (27) flights to more cities in the country, citing potential safety risks following the crash of one of its model 190 planes, which killed 38 people and injured 29. The company will continue to operate flights to six other Russian cities, including Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Kazan.
Previously, the airline had canceled flights from Baku to Grozy and Makhachkala. Now air routes to Mineralnye Vody, Sochi, Volgograd, Ufa, Samara have also been suspended. Qazaq Air, from Kazakhstan, also announced this Friday the suspension of flights from Astana to the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, in the Ural Mountains, for a month.
Authorities in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia have not commented on a possible cause of the crash, pending the official investigation, but Azerbaijani lawmaker Rasim Musabekov blamed Moscow for an alleged mistaken attack on the plane. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment. “The aviation incident is being investigated and we do not believe we have the right to make any assessment until conclusions are reached as a result of the investigation,” he said.
