The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) announced that it sent three investigators to Kazakhstan to offer technical support to the country during investigations into the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines commercial plane in the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan.
In total, 38 of the 67 people on board the aircraft died after the crash. The Embraer 190, registration J2-8243, left Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, bound for the city of Grosnia, Russia, but was forced to make an emergency landing 3 km from Aktau, a city on the opposite bank. of the Caspian Sea in relation to Azerbaijan and Russia.
Videos circulating on social media show the plane turning in the air with its landing gear open as it loses altitude. The aircraft collides with the ground on its belly and then an explosion is seen.
According to the FAB statement, the sending of investigators is part of the protocols of Annex 13 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, of which both Kazakhstan and Brazil are signatories. “This joint work reinforces the commitment to aviation safety and collaboration between the signatory countries of the 1944 Chicago Convention”, highlights the Air Force.
Plane may have been shot down by Russian defense system
According to four Azerbaijani sources interviewed by Reuters, the plane was shot down by a Russian air defense system.
The statement was initially made by Andriy Kovalenko, a member of Ukrainian national security, who cited images from inside the plane that showed “perforated life jackets.”
Subsequently, other military and aviation experts echoed the assessment, which was even reproduced in the Russian media, with the information that the aircraft may have been mistaken for a Ukrainian drone.
In an interview with Estadãoaviation expert Lito Sousa, from the Aviões e Músicas channel on YouTube, believes that the plane was shot down by an air defense system.
“The images shown shortly after the incident indicate damage that is not typical of a conventional air accident,” he says. “It is a concrete possibility that the main cause was slaughter.”
