On a trip to Ghana, where he is spending his holidays, Memphis Depay spoke about the possibility of a friendly match being played with Corinthians in the country.
The player visited the facilities of Asante Kotoko, a club located in the city of Kumasi, and brought the matter to light there.

Will Corinthians face a friendly with Memphis in Ghana?
Although there is no confirmation or date, Memphis Depay said he is trying to arrange a friendly match in Ghana. In conversation with the club, in a video recorded by “3 Sports”, a Ghanaian television channel, he claimed that he had already spoken to Timão’s coach.
– I’m trying to make something possible for the team, to play a friendly against my club in Brazil. I spoke to the coach, it’s in the plans. We will try to make it happen so that you can show your talent in this friendly game – said Memphis Depay on the matter.
The Ghana team follows the European calendar. In other words, the season is still ongoing. In Brazil, Corinthians debuts at Paulista on January 15th.
What is Memphis Depay’s relationship with Ghana?
In Ghana, the player runs a social project aimed at around 24 thousand deaf and blind young people who live in the country.
Even though he has no contact with his father, who is originally from Ghana, Memphis seeks to maintain and cultivate his roots. This is not the first time he has visited the country.

In Europe, it is common for athletes’ surnames to appear on their shirts on the field. In the case of the Corinthians reinforcement, only “Memphis” is used.
In an old interview with the “BBC”, he revealed that since 2012 he has adopted only his first name because “he was abandoned by his father”. Dennis Depay reportedly left his son and was away from his upbringing when the athlete was only four years old and lived in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.
Due to resentment and having been raised solely by his mother, he asked that “Depay” not be used.
