A resolution by the Council of Ministers published this Friday in Diário da República authorizes the rescheduling of the contract costs for the new Judiciary Police (PJ) building in Faro, a public investment in the order of five million euros.
The diploma, approved last week, amends Resolution of the Council of Ministers no. 28/2023, of March 2, which authorizes the global expenditure of 5,338,712 euros, plus VAT, in the years 2024 and 2025 with the renovation of the building that will house the Southern Directorate of the security force.
The document determines that the charges cannot exceed the amounts of 5,238,712 euros in 2024 and 100,000 euros in 2025.
With an initial investment estimated at 4.9 million euros, the cost of the project was updated to more than five million euros, given that, according to the Government, “several situations were identified that result in the need to increase expenditure”.
This increase “results from complementary work, from changes to the project that, due to the public interest, were necessary due to the unforeseen severe degradation that the building has suffered in the meantime, and it is also necessary to extend the deadline for completing the project”, it is mentioned.
Talked about for years, everything indicates that this is for good, or at least, it’s coming soon. Thus, the Southern Directorate of the PJ in Faro will move to the old building of the School of Health of the University of Algarve (UAlg), while the academy will take possession of the current headquarters of the police force, in the historic area of Faro, according to decree-law published in January 2021 in the Official Gazette of the Union.
“In view of the time gap verified after the decision to contract, it is necessary to reschedule the authorized multi-annual charges, in order to bring them into line with the contract execution period, which will run in the years 2024 and 2025, as well as the authorization of the maximum value of the expense”, also says the ordinance published this Friday.
The Council of Ministers also determined that the financial charges will be met by funds allocated, in the year 2024, in the transfers of own revenues between organizations and in the Recovery and Resilience Plan. In 2025, the year’s own revenues will be registered as a source of financing.
It was also established that “the maximum amount of expenditure established for each financial year may be increased by the remaining balance from the year that precedes it”.
