The number of deaths in the GNR and PSP Christmas and New Year Operation rose to 15. Since the beginning of the operation, on December 18, more than 96 thousand vehicles have been inspected across the country.
Between December 18th and 26th, authorities recorded around 3,500 accidents, which resulted in more than a thousand injuries.
During inspections, more than 17 thousand infractions were detected, with emphasis on speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, lack of periodic inspection and improper use of a cell phone while driving. In addition, 700 drivers ended up being detained.
The PSP also seized 22 firearms, 37 bladed weapons and around 47 thousand pyrotechnic items.
With New Year’s Eve approaching, security forces are calling on drivers to be responsible to avoid risky behavior.
The joint operation between GNR and PSP will continue until January 2nd.
