When traveling by plane, the vast majority of passengers prefer to sit in the window seats or those close to the aisle. However, sometimes choosing a seat requires extra payment, so passengers leave their destination to the airlines’ so-called “random assignment.” Either way, an expert explains why you should avoid aisle seats.
The website quotes Air Advisor CEO Anton Radchenko, who warns that seats close to the aisle are those most exposed to contact with other passengers. Radchenko goes further and highlights the results of a study financed by Boing which shows that those who sit in the aisle have, on average, 64 contacts with other people during the flight, while passengers in the window have only 12.
This difference translates into an 80% reduction in the risk of contracting virus for those who choose seats close to the window. Therefore, if you want to minimize the risks of contracting a virus, the ideal solution is to opt for window seats. “Being close to the window also reduces contact with people on the move, reducing exposure to possible sources of contamination”, explains Radchenko.
In addition to seats close to the window reducing the risk of contamination, choosing this seat also means fewer interruptions during the flight, as it will not be necessary to get up when other passengers need to go to the bathroom.
This means that, if you have a choice and are undecided between the window seat and the aisle seat, the seat near the window is the most advantageous.
