Judge Haidée Denise Grin, who on December 16th was promoted by the owner of the Havan store chain, declared herself a suspect to judge an appeal involving the businessman.

She and at least 10 other State Justice magistrates attended an event organized by Hang at a historic property he owns in Brusque (SC).

According to , Haidée had been the case’s rapporteur since October. After the episode came to light, the judge ordered the redistribution of the case, “due to a supervening fact, consisting of the contact established with one of the parties”.

“I adopt this measure so that there is no doubt about my impartiality in the exercise of the judiciary”, she wrote, in an order signed on December 19, one day after her participation in the dinner was revealed by the column.

With the redistribution of the case, the case ended up in the hands of judge André Carvalho, who also participated in the dinner with Hang.

On December 20, Carvalho declared his suspicion to judge the appeal. “In view of recent contact established with one of the parties, whom, until then, I did not know personally, I declare myself a suspect to judge this case, in order to avoid future questions and guarantee confidence in justice”, he wrote.

With Carvalho’s decision, the appeal must be distributed again.

Hang’s press office stated that the dinner was part of “a visit to the restoration of Casa Renaux, built 115 years ago, which was destroyed and is part of the history of the city of Brusque and the state of Santa Catarina.”

The appeal in progress at the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina was filed by the defense of professor Guilherme Howes Neto, resident of Santa Maria (RS), who was forced at the beginning of the year to pay R$20,000 to Hang as moral damages.

The conviction occurred due to posts on social networks considered defamatory and offensive by the businessman.

The decision in the State Court against Neto was made by judge Gilberto Gomes de Oliveira Junior, from the 1st Civil Court of Brusque (SC). He is the son of judge Gilberto Gomes de Oliveira, who was also present at the dinner.
