Lakers star LeBron James was upset about NFL games being played on the same day as the NBA’s traditional Christmas round. After his team’s victory over the Golden State Warriors, 115 to 113, the player sent a message to the American football league and stated that the 25th belongs to Basketball.
“I love the NFL, but Christmas is our day,” LeBron said.
The Christmas round is an NBA tradition and has been played since 1947. Every December 25th, the competition holds several games, always with the current league champion in action.
Since 2020, the NFL has adopted a similar system. On Wednesday (25), the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens beat the Houston Texans in the Christmas round. In LeBron’s view, the strategy divides the public’s attention.
In 2024, LeBron James played in the festive round for the 19th time in his career – with 11 wins, surpassing former teammate Dwyane Wade -, equaling the confrontation with his friend Curry at 12 wins for each side. The Lakers star was a central figure in the team’s triumph with 31 points and ten assists. On the Warriors’ side, Curry scored 38 points, 24 of them from the three-point line, but was unable to avoid the franchise’s 11th defeat in 14 games.
