This Friday (27), federal police carried out six search and seizure warrants against suspects of diverting resources intended for public health in the municipality of Paraty (RJ), in the south of Rio de Janeiro, as part of Operation Cashback.
According to the Federal Police (PF), the corruption scheme had been occurring since the Covid-19 pandemic.
PF investigations found evidence of irregularities in Paraty city council contracts totaling more than R$40 million. According to the police, the bids were targeted and their values were overpriced, with undue payments to public agents.
In addition to the search and seizure warrants, the Court ordered the removal from public service, the prohibition of contracting with public authorities and the unavailability of assets of those suspected of participating in the scheme.
The targets of the Cashback operation are being investigated for electoral crimes, active and passive corruption, as well as bid fraud with overpricing and process misdirection.
