Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov on Friday warned incoming US President Donald Trump against nuclear weapons tests. According to him, Moscow is ready and is considering a number of possible steps in such a case, TASR writes based on a Reuters report.

Riabkov supervises the control of armaments and, according to the Russian daily Kommersant, claims that Donald Trump has impressed during his first term in office a radical stance on the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

“The international situation is the currently extremely complex (and) American politics is today extremely hostile to us in its various aspects,” said Riabkov.

“So the optionality of our steps in the interest of ensuring safety and a complex of possible measures and steps for its implementation… does not know any exceptions,” he added.

During his first term as president Trump and his cabinet considered the possible conduct of the first US nuclear test since 1992. In 2020, The Washington Post reported about it.

Independent Russia has yet to conduct a nuclear test, and the Soviet Union last tested nuclear weapons in 1990. Reuters reminds that Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed a nuclear weapons test only if the United States also conducted it.
