The 2024 Christmas Lottery draw has already revealed the big winners. The first prize, worth 12,500,000 euros, was given to number 92,557, distributed over ten series. Each complete ticket with this number guarantees a prize of R$1.25 million, the equivalent of R$250,000 for those who bought just a fifth of the ticket.
The second prize, worth 2,500,000 euros, was drawn to number 55,604, while the third prize, worth 1,200,000 euros, was given to number 48,992. These awards, as is tradition, were announced in the Extraction Room of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Lisbon, with television broadcast and the iconic chant of the auctioneers, who sang the numbers and their respective values.
For this year, five million tickets were made available, in a total of 100 thousand numbers distributed in 10 series. The probability of winning one of the three top prizes was 1 in 100,000, a number 1,400 times more favorable than the probability of matching the EuroMillions winning key.
According to the distribution model, the R$12.5 million first prize is divided among the ten tickets in the drawn series, allowing up to 50 prizes of R$250,000, if the winners have purchased only fifths of a ticket.
Taxes: how much is left for the State?
Christmas Lottery prizes are subject to taxation. From 5,000 euros onwards, an IRS rate of 20% applies, meaning the winners will have to hand over a significant portion to the State. For example, whoever has a fifth winner with R$250,000 will effectively end up with R$200,000, after deducting the R$50,000 in tax. Anyone who receives a complete ticket with the first prize of R$1.25 million will take home R$1 million net.
The draw, one of the highlights of the Christmas calendar in Portugal, maintains the tradition of meeting the expectations of the Portuguese. This year, the event took place at 12:30 pm this Friday, in the presence of the auctioneers, responsible for singing the numbers that make many dream of a change in their lives.
If you haven’t checked your ticket yet, it’s time to check if luck has smiled on you. And, if you were one of the winners, don’t forget to count on the prize division. After all, in the Christmas Lottery, everyone wins, but some win a little more.
