Brazilian Vinicius Júnior, who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid, was voted the best player in the world at the Globe Soccer Awards, an award that took place this Friday (27) in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, in addition to being praised – and even defended – by Cristiano Ronaldo during the event.
During the awards ceremony, organized by the European Club Association (ECA) and the European Player Agents Association (EFAA), the Portuguese, who plays for Al-Nassr, from Saudi Arabia, stated that Vini, like others from the new generation, like the Spaniard Lamine Yamal, are doing a “fantastic” job and, without mincing words, he classified as “unfair” the fact that the Brazilian .
“He deserved the Ballon d’Or. It was unfair, in my opinion. I speak in front of everyone. They gave it to Rodri – he deserves it too. But I think they should have given it to Vinicius because he won the Champions League and scored in the final. The other questions, for me, are not important. When you deserve it, you must give it to those who deserve it. But you know, these awards shows always do the same thing. This is why I love Globe Soccer. Keep promoting, because you make an honest award. This is very good”, concluded the Portuguese.
In his speech, Vini Jr. thanked the words of Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he considers as an idol alongside Neymar, in addition to expressing his gratitude for the club that launched him into the world, family and teammates.
The Brazilian also received the award for best striker from the Globe Soccer Awards; Real Madrid, best club; Carlo Ancelotti, best coach; Jude Bellingham, best midfielder; and Thibaut Courtois, best goalkeeper – all Real Madrid professionals.
Cristiano Ronaldo was voted the best player in the Middle East and the greatest scorer in the history of the region, with 916 goals.
