Was the Spathiphyllum attacked by aphids? It's not the end of the world, this is how you get rid of them

Spathiphyllum is a plant that is resistant to diseases and pests. However, in order for it to grow healthily, we must take proper care of it. That’s why it’s worth knowing the most important care rules to prevent, among others: aphids. However, if these pests appeared on the specimen, nothing is lost. You can drive them away by spraying with gray soap.

We will prevent Spathiphyllum diseases and pests, first of all, if we provide it with an appropriate location and soil moisture. We must therefore place this specimen in a place that is well lit, but not exposed to direct sunlight. Windows facing east and west are the best.

When it comes to watering, we must make sure that the substrate is neither dry nor overwatered. It is assumed that we water this plant 2-3 times a week in the summer, and slightly less often in the winter – sometimes once a week is enough.

Another important issue in preventing diseases and pests is to provide the plant with adequate air humidity. So let’s place the pot on pebbles on a saucer with water or in a larger container with moist peat. It will also be useful to apply a gentle mist from time to time.

We recommend isolating the Spathiphyllum from other potted plants that are already attacked by diseases and pests. Then we will be sure that they will not transfer to it. It is also worth using preventive pest control products several times a year.

An attack of aphids on the leaf flower can be recognized by the sticky secretion on the surface of the leaves, which slows down their growth. These pests are more likely to appear when the air humidity around the plant is too low.

If the specimen is attacked by aphids, this is the first thing we should do remove fragments of the pterygoid on which insects feed. These pests most often attack young shoots.

Once we have removed the infected parts of the plant, the next step is to spray against these pests. So we need to dissolve 20 g of gray soap in warm water. Spray the plant with this solution. We can use greenhouse oil instead.

Let’s remember to take action as soon as possible after noticing aphids. Thanks to this, we will be able to save the specimen and restore its former condition.
