the general’s lawyer, stated this Friday (27) that the lieutenant colonel is a “contumacious liar” and that the plea bargain of the former aide-de-camp of (PL) needs to be questioned.

“How can you give credibility to the speech of a guy who lied the entire time and was desperate?” asked the lawyer in an interview with GloboNews.

He compared Cid’s denunciation to the award-winning collaborations concluded within the scope of .

Oliveira Lima mentioned that the lieutenant colonel was imprisoned for 129 days before having the agreement approved by the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court). He also recalled that the soldier said, in audios revealed by Veja magazine, that .

In testimony to the Supreme Court in March and with the plea bargain at risk, he said that the audios were an “outburst” and part of a “private, informal and private” conversation.

Oliveira Lima says he still cannot go into the details of Braga Netto’s defense while the accusation is under secrecy. Therefore, he refused to answer questions about evidence of the general’s relationship with the coup plans.

“Mauro Cid’s award-winning collaboration is a fundamental piece that links the entire incident report, so I have no way of going into a detail of a message that may be completely out of context and here making a technical line of defense of proof and a document to which I had no access”, he said.

The lawyer also stated that it was not possible that only in front of Moraes, after having already given 11 statements to the Federal Police, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid remembered that Braga Netto, to finance anti-democratic acts.

For him, Cid lied in his testimony because he was under pressure for the possible annulment of the plea.

José Luis de Oliveira Lima is one of the best-known criminalists in Brasília. He has good access to the Supreme Court and was responsible for defending clients such as former minister José Dirceu, doctor Roger Abdelmassih and the former president of the construction company OAS Léo Pinheiro.

The lawyer defended that Moraes be prevented from leading the processes related to the 2022 coup plot, as it is one of the .

A request to this effect, made by the defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), has already been denied by the STF by 10 votes to 1. Only minister André Mendonça was defeated in the matter.

“I need to record once again the respect I have for minister Alexandre de Moraes, but I have the vote of minister André Mendonça”, said Oliveira Lima.

“I think that, after this complaint is presented, in my opinion, as a lawyer, the presence of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, whether in conducting the process or even in participating in the trial, should be questioned”, he added.

The lawyer also said that he does not feel “comfortable” with Moraes’ participation in the investigation and indicated a possible request for nullity of the trials if the minister votes.

He claimed to have met with Braga Netto five times since taking on the defense of the general, arrested on December 14 on suspicion of obstruction of justice.

He repeated three times in the interview that the retired general denies “any participation in an alleged coup d’état”.

“We are talking about a four-star general, a man with 42 years of service to the Brazilian Army. Therefore, I cannot believe that this man would not be sincere and frank with me,” he said.

The lawyer also denied that the general could close a plea bargain with the Federal Police.

“Denunciation is a means of defense and must be used with discretion, with the presentation of evidence and by those who committed a crime. In the case of General Braga Netto, he cannot use this means of defending against denunciation for one simple reason: He didn’t commit any crime.”
