Passionate journalist, for more than 10 years, I have been carrying out investigations, portraits, reports or interviews.
Currently in the middle of a legal battle following an accusation of plagiarism concerning his hit “On va s’aimer”, Gilbert Montagné has decided to counterattack. A choice supported by the support that the singer finds among his friends and neighbors in Donjon and Saint-Léon, villages in Allier, where he grew up and has a second home, as Purepeople has noted.

EXCLUDED Gilbert Montagné accused of plagiarism: his neighbors and friends in Allier (there is a second home) support him
December 16, 2024. Agence France Presse (AFP) published a judgment dated October 9 of that same year. Signed by the Paris Court of Appeal, this document concerns two of the most popular artists in France: “Messrs. Montagné and Barbelivien as well as the Universal companies “ Revealed two days earlier by The Informed, this news was like a bomb. According to the accusations, We’re going to love each other would only be a copy of another song also released in the 70s, performed by the Italian singer Gianni Nazzaro: A girl from France. Ironically, if the singer is indeed different, the author is the same as that ofWe’re going to love each othernamely.
After a few days of much-noticed media silence, Gilbert Montagné broke his silence through his lawyer. Determined to keep control (and the rights) to one of his most important hits, the artist who spoke a few months ago let it be known that he had taken the matter to the Court of Cassation. “An assessment is underway in Italy”specified Gilles-William Goldnadel, lawyer for the interpreter of the Tropical Sunlightsat AFP. For his part, Didier Barbelivien suggested “to all those who wish to listen to both works to form their own opinion. If you listen to both, you will fall out of the closet.” An observation shared by the French media who took up the matter and broadcast the two titles one after the other, highlighting the great gap both rhythmically and harmonically…
Gilbert Montagné does not comment on the plagiarism case
Preferring darkness to light in these troubled times, Gilbert Montagné has stopped all media intervention. While he was promoting the release of his album We sing! Let’s dance! with Gilbert Montagné (a book-album of children’s nursery rhymes which was to take pride of place at the foot of Christmas trees), the artist suddenly disappeared from the radar, leaving his legal representative to hold the megaphone. But where is he then? At home in Paris? Or rather in its bucolic haven of peace, at the Dungeon in Allier? Purepeople carried out the investigation.
Few people know it, but although born in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, Gilbert Montagné is only half a Parisian. He left his child’s heart in Allier. In Saint-Léon exactly, where he spent all his summers in his grandmother’s house. It is in this small village between farms and grandma’s hot pies that the little boy already “different” felt his first artistic emotions. “The farmers, they had never seen a blind little boy, he recalled in 2022 to local journalists from France 3. They let me touch the animals.”
“We are all behind him in this ordeal“, says a trader
Today, it is in the neighboring town of Donjon that Gilbert Montagné has a second home. A warm home that allows him to maintain a link with his childhood lands. It was therefore in this town that we carried out a neighborhood investigation, trying to find out if the artist had been seen and, above all, if he was well. At the Donjon town hall, discretion remains essential. “Yes, he does have his house here, but we are not able to tell you more”the telephone receptionist tells us. Same story on Place de la République, where several bars and restaurants are concentrated. “Gilbert has his habits with Thérèse, one of the restaurateurs tells us. We haven’t seen him in the village for some time, but we are all behind him in the ordeal he is going through.” “I think he especially needs to be left alone, says another about . The end of year celebrations are made to take a breather.”
When looking around those who meet him in the Dungeon, unanimity is required. Everyone loves the simplicity of Gilbert Montagné and takes advantage of our extended microphone to wish him a happy birthday (he was born on December 28 and will celebrate his 72nd birthday this year). Wishes which mix with a truce from the confectioners which everyone hopes will be restful for the singer in the turmoil. “Frankly, he doesn’t deserve what’s happening to him. concludes a merchant from Saint-Léon. Gilbert is the artist who always has his hand on his heart. Leave him alone and let him sing his song as he wants!“ That’s all his fans and friends wish him for the coming year 2025 (and all the following ones). It remains to be seen when the case will go to the Court of Cassation… For the moment, the date has not been revealed by the artist’s advisors. At the Donjon and Saint-Léon, waiting and kindness will remain in place until then…
