According to US information, soldiers from the DPRK are carrying out mass foot attacks on Ukrainian positions.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Friday that generals on the front in Russia’s Kursk region, part of which has been occupied by the Ukrainian army since the summer, are recklessly sending North Korean soldiers to their deaths. “According to our assessments, North Korean troops are conducting mass infantry attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Kursk region, and this tactic is not the most effective,” Kirby said.
Kirby confirmed South Korean estimates that around 1,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed or wounded in fighting in Russia’s Kursk region in the past week alone. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Monday that up to 3,000 DPRK soldiers had been killed or injured in the fighting.
“We also have reports of North Korean soldiers who have taken their own lives rather than surrender to Ukrainian forces, presumably out of fear of reprisals against their families in North Korea if captured,” Kirby added.
