US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby on Friday he declared that generals at the front in the Russian Kursk region, part of which has been occupied by the Ukrainian army since the summer, they recklessly send North Korean soldiers to their deaths. TASR informs about it according to the AFP report.
“According to our assessments, North Korean troops are carrying out mass infantry attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Kursk region, while this tactic is not exactly the most effective,” Kirby said.
Kirby confirmed South Korea’s estimates that around 1,000 North Korean soldiers were killed or injured in the fighting in Russia’s Kursk region, and only for the last week. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Monday that up to 3,000 DPRK soldiers were killed or injured in the fighting.
“We also have reports of North Korean soldiers who are rather than surrendering to Ukrainian forces, probably out of fear of reprisals against their families in North Korea if they were captured,” Kirby added.
