More than 800 monitored people broke electronic ankle bracelets in Acre in 2024, points out Iapen

The Institute of Penitentiary Administration of Acre (Iapen-Ac) sent the ContilNet exclusive data on breakages of ankle bracelets used by people serving sentences that require monitoring in 2024.

Data for the year 2024 shows that 836 ankle bracelets were broken by monitored people, 667 in the central unit, 22 in Brasiléia, 71 in Cruzeiro do Sul, 31 in Feijó, 37 in Sena Madureira and 8 in Tarauacá.

The numbers point to an increase in the number of broken electronic ankle bracelets, which represents a growth of 20.11%, since in 2023 the total number of breaks was 696.

The central and Feijó units were the ones that showed an increase and boosted the 2024 numbers, mainly in the central region, where the numbers went from 525 to 667, an increase of 27.04%.

The other regions showed a drop, namely Cruzeiro do Sul, dropping from 88 to 71; Sena Madureira, from 55 to 37; and Tarauacá from 18 to eight cases of ankle bracelets breaking.
