The mayor () chose José Antonio Parente, known as Totó Parente, as his new Secretary of Culture, and journalist Fabio Portela as Secretary of Communication.
Totó is linked to the MDB of Rio de Janeiro, was a councilor and candidate for mayor in Cuiabá, president of Embratur and campaign advisor to deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ).
He was always close to former federal deputy Carlos Bezerra (MDB) and became an advisor to the party leadership in the Chamber of Deputies.
More recently, Totó was secretary of the Ministry of Planning, led by Simone Tebet, and participated in the campaign for the re-election of Nunes, who chose him for the position.
The folder will now be called Culture and Creative Economy.
For Communication, Nunes decided to appoint Fábio Portela, who was press coordinator for former governor José Serra’s campaign for Mayor in 2012. Before that, he was editor of Brazil at Veja magazine in São Paulo. Most recently, Portela was Superintendent of International Relations at CNN Brasil.
