No snow has fallen in the last few days in Serra da Estrela, but the ski resort at the highest point in mainland Portugal is in full operation thanks to the production of artificial snow.
Speaking to SIC, the space’s director, Carlos Varandas, says that there are four open tracks and a leisure area with sleds and buoys designed especially for children was created.
“We are producing snow to at least keep these four lanes effective through New Year’s Eve.”
Fireworks are also planned to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. Thousands of people are expected and the hotels are practically full.
