For Banská Bystrica and the village of Plášťovce in the district of Levice, there is a warning about the smog situation for PM10 particles. It was announced by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) and will last until further notice. SHMÚ informed about it on its website.
According to meteorologists, they belong to the most sensitive population groups to PM10 particles old people, persons with diseases of the respiratory and cardiovascular system, allergy sufferers and asthmatics, very young children and pregnant women. Therefore, they advise to limit the stay and physical activities outside and also to reduce the ventilation of living rooms.
In sensitive persons, acute effects can be manifested in the form of irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, feelings of pressure on the chest, cough and headache. In asthmatics, they can cause attacks and symptoms of respiratory tract irritation.
