Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) becomes a tool of Russian propaganda. Slovakia is and must remain part of the European Union (EU) and NATO, not be an extended arm of Moscow. This was announced by the chairman of the SaS opposition party, Branislav Gröhling, in response to Fico’s statements on Friday (December 27).
“Slovakia cannot afford to be a tool of disinformation games. We need a prime minister who defends the interests of our country, builds trust between partners and works on the real security of citizens, not on spreading propaganda that serves the interests of Russia.” stated Gröhling. According to him, Fico is talking about an “independent Slovak foreign policy”, but his actions point to something else. Gröhling claims that the prime minister downplays Russian aggression, he talks about baseless accusations against Ukraine and openly questions the solidarity of the EU and NATO.
The Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic offers Slovakia as a suitable country for organizing any peace negotiations regarding the Ukrainian-Russian conflict. He also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on this topic and welcomes his positive reaction. For Fico, it is incomprehensible that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refuses a ceasefire. At the same time, he stated that after January 1, 2025, when the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine is to stop, the Slovak government will evaluate the situation and the possibilities of reciprocal measures against Ukraine.
