Richard Clayderman, who turns 71 this Saturday, December 28, 2024, was a very famous pianist in France in the 1970s and 1980s. He began as an accompanist for several personalities such as Pierre Groscolas, or Thierry Le Luron, and worked as a stage musician. Although he did not intend for a solo career, he was spotted by producers Olivier Toussaint and Paul de Senneville and achieved international success in 1976 with Ballad for Adeline. The record, which sold several million copies in 38 countries, allowed him to acquire fame on a global scale.
The one who has more than 1,600 titles, as well as multiple gold and platinum records to his credit (90 million records sold in total), has therefore decided to go and perform all over the world, and in particular in Asia, where he is very popular. He will also give a historic concert in Shanghai in 1987, which will be broadcast on Asian television.
The Chinese are willing to spend a lot of money to see him play, as explained Capital in 2017: “His current tour of China, titled The Splendor of Romanticism, a label often associated with France, includes 31 dates, with tickets selling for between 380 and 2,018 yuan (50 and 260 euros), relatively high prices for the country.s.”

“At the end of the 1980s, I neglected France a little to respond to the numerous requests I received from Japan, Southeast Asia and Latin America. So much so that today French people aged 20-40 don’t know me, even if the older generations have not forgotten me.”, Richard Clayderman confided to AFP.
Although he has been less talked about lately, especially in France, he nevertheless remains active, since in February 2022, he released a new album entitled Forever, love on which he collaborated with Paul de Senneville, composer of the success Ballad for Adeline. And he also has many concerts planned for the coming days and months.
He will notably be in China from December 30, before leaving for the United States in May 2025, with a concert planned in Miami then another in New York four days later.
