Player, who has always shown great identification with the fans, regretted the way he was dismissed: ‘Unfortunately it wasn’t a more formal way’
The defender published a farewell video for the fans this Saturday (28) and took advantage of the moment to send a message to the club’s new board. The player, who has always shown great identification with the fans, regretted the way he was dismissed: “Unfortunately it wasn’t a more formal way”. In the final stretch of his contract, which ends this Tuesday (December 31), the defender did not have his contract renewed. The person responsible for communicating the dismissal was José Boto, the new football director who assumed the role with the election of Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, as president of the club.
“The big day has come to say goodbye, Nation. Unfortunately it was not a more formal form due to numerous factors. But I couldn’t help but come here and say that I am eternally grateful for everything I experienced within Flamengo. I saw all the crowd mobilization so that I could wear the mantle. It was like that during the years I spent. Wherever we went, everything was very warm and genuine (fan support), in Rio, São Paulo, the Northeast. For me, it was always gratifying to hug you and reciprocate the love I feel”, says part of the video.
Club employees were also mentioned in the wake of the athlete’s thanks for the moments he spent at the Ninho do Urubu Training Center. “It was always a very close relationship,” said the player who recorded the video sitting in a chair.
David Luiz arrived at the Rio club at the end of 2021 to be one of the squad’s leaders. Experienced, he helped teammates who were down with the fans to turn things around. The most emblematic case was that of right-back Rodinei. Heavily criticized, the player became one of the strong points of Dorival Júnior’s scheme thanks to the defender’s demands in training.
In the final against , in 2022, Rodinei converted the decisive penalty in alternating kicks by displacing goalkeeper Cássio. One of the highest earners in the squad, David Luiz, 38 years old, had accepted a salary reduction to remain at the club. With the change of management in the presidency, he ended up being dismissed.
