Salary increases would be linked to merit and would be automatically triggered if Slovak students improve in international tests. In an interview for TASR, Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker (Voice-SD) stated this, saying that they will discuss it further.

In the case of elementary schools, teachers’ salaries would be legally linked to automatic growth, which would be triggered if the results of Slovak pupils in international tests improved. If results were to stagnate or deteriorate, wage growth would slow.

“This is one of the things we want to focus on because we care about children. Slovakia, our economy and the future of all of us who live here depend on future generations. But it won’t work without teachers and professional staff. We just have to create good incentives for it,” added the minister.

He assumes that if Slovakia is to have better results in education, it is also necessary to improve the evaluation and remuneration of teachers. According to its head, the Ministry of Education will continue to focus on the education of teachers, their support and their preparation for the future profession.
