Farense and Vitória de Guimarães draw two goals in Faro

Farense and Vitória de Guimarães, whose coach Daniel Sousa made his debut, drew two goals this Sunday, in a meeting in the 16th round of the Portuguese First Football League, played in Faro.

Cláudio Falcão, at 37 minutes, and Neto, at 90+8, scored the home team’s goals, while Gustavo Silva, at 49, and Samu, at 90, scored for the Minas Gerais team, who had only won two of the last 10 games under the command of the now ‘lion’ Rui Borges.

The team from Guimarães gained 24 points, remaining in sixth place, while Farense, which was coming off a triumph in Famalicão, gained 13, rising to 16th place.

Farense draws at 90+8 and ruins Daniel Sousa’s debut at Vitória

Farense and Vitória de Guimarães drew 2-2, in a game from the 16th round of the I Football League in which the Algarve team prevented, in the 90+8 minutes, the successful debut of Daniel Sousa, the new coach of the Minho team.

Cláudio Falcão gave the home team an advantage in the 37th minute, Gustavo Silva, in the 49th minute, and Samu, in the 90th minute, both with assists from Alberto, turned the game around for the Guimarães team, whose better football would justify the triumph, but Ângelo Neto, at 90 +8, he rescued a point for the locals.

Vitória, which has four consecutive games in the championship without winning, remains in sixth place, with 24 points, while Farense, with 13, rose to 16th place and left the direct relegation zone, where it had been since the third round.

With just three days of training, Daniel Sousa decided to make just one change to Guimarães’ eleven in light of the home draw with Nacional (1-1) – still with Rui Borges in charge –, with the addition of João Mendes to midfield. field, while Tozé Marreco did not change the team after the triumph in Famalicão (2-1).

The first minutes were marked by balance, but Vitória, in ‘4x2x3x1’, gradually began to try to take the lead, while Farense, in their usual ‘3x4x3’, closed the spaces to defend well and, the first time they he created a good offensive play, even coming close to the goal, with a cross shot from Elves Baldé (24 minutes).

After half an hour, Guimarães’ team, activating the right flank with great discretion, finally managed to create danger, with Gustavo Silva in focus: the Brazilian forward shot at the left post, in the 33rd minute, taking advantage of the passivity of the Algarve defense, after a faulty shot from João Mendes, and headed close to the right post two minutes later.

More effectively, Farense took the lead immediately following (36 minutes), from a dead ball, with a header from Cláudio Falcão, after a corner from the right by Marco Matias.

In stoppage time of the first half, Vitória threatened again, but João Mendes missed a deflection in the ‘mouth’ of the goal and Ricardo Velho ‘flew’ to save a header from Nuno Santos.

The break did not stop the momentum of the Minho team, who re-entered the game ‘with everything’, reaching a draw in the 49th minute, after a great play by Alberto, who recovered the ball in midfield, overtook two opponents and served to complete a goal. Gustavo Silva.

At this stage of the match, the Victorian’s absolute superiority found a worthy rival in Ricardo Velho, who stopped the attempts of João Miguel Mendes (54 minutes), Tiago Silva (61) and Gustavo Silva (61), while Nuno Santos shot at the post, in a play in which the ball deflected off a local defender (57).

After 20 minutes of great brilliance, the ascendant of Daniel Sousa’s team continued to show expression in possession of the ball, but no longer on blatant occasions, with Farense once again gaining defensive tranquility.

In the 90th minute, midfielder Samu sealed the turnaround, taking advantage of another good move and assistance from Alberto, but, in a frantic end to the game, the Faro team reacted and guaranteed equality at 90+8, with a shot by Ângelo Neto at the edge of the area, after an incomplete cut by the foreign defense, which brought the well-filled Estádio de São Luís ‘red’.

Statements after the Farense-Vitória de Guimarães game (2-2)

– Tozé Marreco (Farense coach): “The first half was good. It was a balanced, disputed game, we were dangerous at times. More ball from Vitória, but I only remember a dangerous situation ending the first half. It was a split game and we did well in the game.

Then, in the second half, Vitória was better. We weren’t able to condition the way we wanted, we were a little late when we had to press.

I had warned that it was important, in the last minutes of the first half and in the first minutes of the second half – where Vitória scored more goals –, to be very assertive in encouraging us not to ‘fall asleep’ and we had difficulties getting into the game in the second half. .

When it doesn’t work one way, we come another way. It is a point rescued in the last breath and this only happens because there is a soul, a very strong belief, of believing until the end, suffering in the 90th minute, going after it and having this merit of never stopping believing.

We’ve already lost points in stoppage time too and I really believe in the final moments. When the organization and what we had planned don’t work as well, we have to use other ‘weapons’.

This team will not be saved just by quality, it will be saved a lot because of this aggressiveness, this belief and this attitude. They considered us absolutely dead on the sixth day and that’s what’s worth highlighting.”

– Daniel Sousa (Vitória de Guimarães coach): “[Um ponto sabe a] very little. It’s frustrating when the players did everything to leave here with the victory and we had a lot of opportunities.

In the first half, I felt some uneasiness in some moves, the game didn’t flow in the same way as in the second [parte]. Still, we had good control.

In the second half, we clearly deserved to come away with a different result. We have Ricardo [Velho] doing a ‘supergame’ again.

Positive feeling. Obviously losing [a vitória] So, at that moment in the game, it’s always very difficult, but the feeling I had until then was extremely positive.

The attitude, the behavior on the field, the way we were playing, managing to put ideas into play and create finishing situations – we didn’t achieve all the ones we had – were really pleasing to me. The bid [do 2-2] breaks down this feeling that could have remained a little.

For the record, the support we had here at the stadium from the fans who came from above is unique. The journey is not easy and we had a good support framework, which is very important for us”.
