Farense prepared for “very demanding” reception against Vitória de Guimarães

The Farense coach said that his team is prepared for a “very demanding challenge” on Sunday, at the reception to Vitória de Guimarães, in the 16th round of the I Football League.

“We know that we have a very demanding challenge ahead, but the team is focused and prepared”, said Tozé Marreco, in the short statements released by the Algarve emblem.

Farense wants to “continue” what it has done in the last rounds, “with the same rigor, intensity and ambition”, stressed the coach.

In the last five championship games, the Gauchos scored eight points, with two wins and two draws, leaving them in 18th and last place in the table.

In a game between “two great clubs”, Tozé Marreco expects the “support” of the fans to be able to overcome the Minho team, who debut a new coach, Daniel Sousa.

Farense, 17th place, with 12 points, and Vitória de Guimarães, sixth, with 23, face each other on Sunday, at 3:30 pm, at the São Luís Stadium, in Faro, with Bruno Vieira refereed.

Daniel Sousa praises the cast’s reception and promises Vitória prepared in Faro

Coach Daniel Sousa stated this Saturday that he had “a great reception” by the Vitória de Guimarães squad and promised a team prepared for the Victorians’ debut, against Farense, in the 16th round of the Portuguese Football League.

Successor of Rui Borges, coach who transferred from Guimarães to Sporting, the former ‘helmsman’ of Gil Vicente, Arouca and Sporting de Braga highlighted that the working group welcomed him well on a human level and assimilated some of his methods since Thursday – fair, day of the first training.

“The reception was great on the human side. Also in methodological terms it was quite good. There are three days of preparation. One has to be careful with methodological adaptation, so as not to overload the players. (…) We are prepared, in line with what has been done in previous games”, he said, in the preview of the challenge scheduled for Sunday, at 3:30 pm, in Faro.

After analyzing the Minho team’s most recent game, against Nacional (2-2), which had “very interesting things in offensive and defensive terms”, the Barcelos-born coach defined “priorities for the progression” of a team that always intends to “compact and cohesive”, “intense and aggressive”, starting with the confrontation at the São Luís Stadium.

Daniel Sousa admitted that, on Sunday, it could “be difficult to find the path to the goal”, against an opponent who defends with a line of five players, generally ‘low’, and who is now “playing a regular championship”, with points added in four of the last six rounds, despite occupying 17th and penultimate place, with 12 points.

Ready to take on a formation whose usual tactical system is ‘4–3–3’, a scheme similar to the one he used at the start of the current season, at Sporting de Braga, the 40-year-old coach highlighted that these structures can be flexible and that “ the most important thing is that players feel comfortable” in the positions in which they play.

The Victorian ‘helmsman’ also acknowledged that the “longer weeks” of work to prepare the meetings in January and February 2025, unlike what happened until mid-December, with the Conference League and games every three days, will be beneficial for the application of the tactical principles recommended by your technical team.

Although the club from Guimarães has the “requirement to win every game”, Daniel Sousa highlighted that the season will be approached “game by game”, especially because each game is “the moment of evaluation” of the weekly work.

“The game is the most important moment of the week for the players and the time to evaluate what we did during the week. To evaluate the quality of my work, I have to evaluate it. I have to review content for players to continue evolving. The game-by-game issue is decisive,” he said.
