Portuguese international footballer Ruben Semedo was arrested in the early hours of Sunday for domestic violence, according to police and judicial sources contacted by Lusa, following a statement from the Public Security Police (PSP).
The PSP confirmed the arrest, in the early hours of this Sunday, of a 30-year-old man, for the crime of domestic violence, by the criminal investigation squad of the Vila Franca de Xira division, without identifying the detainee.
Contacted by Lusa, judicial and police sources confirmed that he is Ruben Semedo, a football player for Al Khor, from Qatar.
The man was detained at his residence, around 3am, according to the PSP statement, which adds that he is awaiting his first police interrogation, on Monday, at the Lisbon Metropolitan Command.
According to the PSP, the 30-year-old victim “was the victim of attacks and threats by her partner, and was subsequently detained at the suspect’s residence for a few hours until she was able to go to a police station, where she made a report.”
“The victim had several visible bruises, so emergency services were called and he received hospital treatment,” added the police.
Ruben Semedo, who played for clubs such as Sporting, Villarreal, FC Porto, Rio Ave or Olympiacos, is a repeat offender in police cases, after having already been involved in suspected kidnapping and assault of a person in Spain and an alleged rape of a minor and another case of domestic violence, both in Greece.
