At Christmas, the popular Czech film directed by Jan Hřebejk could not be missed on TV screens Beds (1999). You’ve probably seen this iconic image several times before, but have you ever noticed the inconsistencies that occur there? Miroslav Donutil (73) also pointed out one of them for .
In the very first minutes of the film, there is a scene where father Kraus (Jiří Kodet) carries a Christmas tree from the balcony and then leans it against the wall. In fact, there was no wall, and not even a tree to support. In one of the shots, we see how one of the assistants catches the tree so that it does not fall.
“Paradoxically, every time I’ve seen the film again, and I really do from time to time, I find that there’s still more to discover. Regardless of that there are things you will probably never discover unless you stop it, because there, like in all other films, there were also technical errors. And the mistakes are there. I will say one when, for example, the props maker, when Jirka Kodet leans against the Christmas tree, holds it with his hand. When you stop, you will also see it there. But they are still there moments when the film was shown in cinemas, the jokes pretty much disappeared. And that’s because people were laughing a lot, which was good, that was a good sign. And when a person sees the film on TV in peace, he suddenly realizes how much more there is.” he explained and also mentioned the scene he was referring to.
“I will say, for example, one such moment when I say that grandpa Boris (Richard Tesařík) gave us the stand. That’s the Russian soldier who appears at the beginning. And I’ll say the following sentence: “I’ll come again in the summer”. Few will realize that it was actually an allusion to the fact that they came in 1968, but on tanks,” Donutil added.
