An Air Canada flight ended in shock when the landing gear failed to function and forced the pilots to make an emergency landing. No one is hurt.
Flames appeared on the left side of the plane, which was dragging on the asphalt. A recording made from inside the aircraft shows many sparks coming out from under the wings until fire appears. The flames stopped as soon as the plane’s fuselage and engines stopped sliding on the asphalt.
The images reveal passengers in the impact position – with their heads lowered and hands behind their heads. The incident took place at Halifax Stanfield International Airport around 9:30 pm (Brasília time, 10:30 pm) this Saturday (28).
The 73 passengers were rescued. They underwent an assessment in an airport hangar and no injuries were found, the airport explained in a note published on social media. Pilots and flight attendants also survived without injuries.
THE PLANE
The aircraft was a Dash 8-400, a model that uses turboprop engines. The plane operated by Air Canada and took off from the city of St. John’s, for a journey of 1,400 kilometers.
A problem with the landing gear is the main suspect for the emergency landing. The information comes from the Toronto Star newspaper, which spoke to Peter Fitzpatrick, a spokesperson for Air Canada.
Passenger Nikki Valentine stated that it was possible to notice that the landing gear did not lower. The description of what she saw inside the Dash 4-800 was given to CBC News.
“The plane started to angle to the left at about 20 degrees, and when that happened, we heard a really loud noise, which almost sounded like a collision,” Nikki said in an interview with CBC.
