A plane carrying 175 passengers and six crew left the runway and crashed into a wall at Muan International Airport, in southwest South Korea, this Saturday (28) Sunday morning in the Asian country.
According to the Korean news agency Yonhap, at least 28 people died. The aircraft had taken off from Bangkok, Thailand, bound for Muan. Other passengers are being rescued by the plane’s tail.
The incident happened at 9:07 am local time (9:07 pm Brasília time). According to police and firefighters, the plane, operated by the airline Jeju Air, was preparing to land at the Muan terminal, located 288 km from the capital Seoul.
According to a preliminary investigation, the accident was caused by “contact with birds, resulting in a landing gear failure” while the plane was trying to land at the airport, located in the southwest of the country, according to Yonhap.
Rescue teams were evacuating passengers from the rear section of the aircraft, Yonhap reported, citing the fire department.
