Recently, the island of Madeira received the Bronze award in the category of “Most Desired Island” in Europe to travel to, at the 23rd edition of the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards. These awards, which celebrate the most attractive destinations on a European and global level, are organized by the prestigious British magazine Wanderlust Magazine and are based on the votes of its readers, as reported by .
This year, the competition received more than 3 million votes, registered by around 168 thousand readers, who chose their favorite European destinations in 22 categories. Eduardo Jesus, president of the Madeira Promotion Association and regional secretary of Economy, Tourism and Culture, highlighted the importance of this recognition: “The awards and distinctions received are always important recognition for our work, but they also increase the demands and serve as incentives for we continue to position ourselves as a reference destination, offering different and unique experiences».
In addition to Madeira, other national destinations also stood out in these awards. Portugal was ranked as the 10th “Most Desired Country” by readers of Wanderlust Magazine. Lisbon won 5th place among the “Most Desired Cities” and the Azores secured 4th place in the “Most Desired Regions” category.
