The city leads the state in accumulated precipitation, with 199 millimeters recorded in the last 72 hours
This Saturday (28), 40 people were left homeless after landslides led to the closure of homes in Saint Elizabethin Grande. The city leads the accumulated rainfall in the State, with 199 millimeters recorded in the last 72 hours – a value that corresponds to 88% of the expected average for the entire month of December, according to Civil Defense. The displaced people were taken to family homes, while technical teams from the state agency, together with the Institute for Technological Research (IPT), carried out inspections in the affected areas to assess the damage and risks. In addition to landslides, the municipality also records flooding points.
Despite the severity, there are no records of deaths or injuries, according to information from the crisis office, created at the beginning of the week to monitor the impacts of the rains in the State of São Paulo. The forecast for the rest of the day in Santa Isabel points to high cloud variability, with rain showers of light to moderate intensity, accompanied by lightning and winds. “This scenario is the result of the action of a cold front and the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS), which remains close to the border between São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro”, informed the Civil Defense.
Ibiúna-Mairinque bridge closure
In addition to Santa Isabel, the municipality of Ibiúna, 68 km from the capital of São Paulo, was also affected by heavy rains. On the afternoon of Friday, 27th, the bridge over the Sorocaba river, on Estrada Angelino Soares de Campos, which connects Ibiúna to Mairinque, was completely closed.
Civil Defense photos show cracks in the walkway and damage to the protective barrier. There is still no forecast for the opening of the road.
