With the help of a Brazilian touch, Manchester City finally celebrated a victory again. Involved in a technical crisis that has been holding back the team’s campaign this season, coach Pep Guardiola’s team put an end to the series of failures by defeating Leicester 2-0, this Sunday, in the English Championship. Savinho opened the way by scoring the first goal and assisted Haaland to secure the three points.

In the last 13 matches, the sky blue team accumulated three draws, nine defeats and won just one victory before beating Leicester in the 19th round of the competition. The triumph took the visiting team to 31 points, against 35 for the home team.

After winning again, the objective now is to try to achieve a series of positive results to make the environment improve once and for all. The two teams play again next weekend in the competition at the beginning of January. On Saturday, Manchester City will seek to achieve their second consecutive victory playing at home against West Ham. On the same day, Leicester will go to Villa Park to face Aston Villa.

Pressured for not being able to get out of their bad phase, Manchester City started the match in the best Guardiola style: forcing the offensive game. De Bruyne and Haaland wasted two good chances to open the scoring.

Frightened by the intensity, Leicester gave the ball away and offered spaces for the visiting team to attack. After insisting so much, City ended up finding the net at their opponent’s home.

Folden started the move in the middle and risked the shot. The ball bounced on the pitch and goalkeeper Stolarczyk saved it. Savinho followed the play, grabbed the unmarked rebound and shot to make it 1-0 in the 20th minute.

The advantage did not change City’s attitude, as they continued to play better on the field and once again missed a clear opportunity with Haaland. But it was Leicester who had the best chance before going into half-time. At 38, Buonanotte headed firmly and hit Ortega’s post.

Returning to the second half, the roles were reversed. City started to play to defend their advantage, while Leicester went on the attack in search of equality on the scoreboard. At five, El Khannous tried to score a penalty, but the referee ordered the play to continue.

Used to putting pressure on their rivals, City, that time, stayed on the defense. With the counterattack at their disposal, City killed the game in style. Savinho received it on the left and crossed for Haaland to make it 2-0 and guarantee the triumph.
