The Hungarian national hockey team has set a big goal for 2025, for the first time in history, they want to stay in the A-division. He declared it team coach Gergely Majoross. The Hungarians will appear in the B-group at the World Championships in Herning, Denmark. From May 10 to 19, their opponents will be Germany, the USA, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Switzerland and Norway.
“When I signed a three-year contract, we agreed to try to make history, to achieve something that we have never done before. Staying in the A-Division, that’s exactly what it is,” said the 45-year-old Majoross in an interview with the MTI agency.
At the turn of August and September, the Hungarians already played Olympic qualifiers against Slovakia, Kazakhstan and Austria in Bratislava. Together with the preparation for the upcoming World Cup, they should play approximately 15 matches with the highest category teams in one season, which is unprecedented for them.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for youngsters to move closer to the level of the best teams. We want to get the most out of participating in the WC. Staying in ‘A’ would be a big step, we will make a lot of effort to do it,” the Majoross promised.
