Two months after the , tens of thousands of people for the management that the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, carried out after the damage that hit a good part of the region on October 29.

The document signed by the convening entities reads: “The person responsible for the magnitude of this tragedy has a first and last name, Carlos Mazón, and we cannot overcome it until he and his council resign.” The new march takes place a few days after the president offered a new version of the meal that was served on the afternoon of the tragedy and in the same week that the Valencian Superior Court of Justice has decided that a court will investigate, for the moment, the management of the catastrophe.

The nearly 60 convening entities – plus 150 that adhere to the call – affirm that, two months after the tragedy that caused 231 deaths, many of the basic needs of the affected people remain uncovered. “There is a population still without housing, a proliferation of diseases in the affected areas, flooded garages that endanger the structure of the buildings and thousands of elevators that do not work and make life difficult for people with reduced mobility,” states the document that has been published. shared the platform. The manifesto also states that “the situation of people in an irregular situation is especially vulnerable, as they do not have access to aid.”

“It’s accumulated. The reasons to continue protesting are adding up,” denounced Mar Bueno, co-spokesperson of the organizing platform. “It cannot be that two months after the tragedy, responsibilities have not yet been determined.” Alexandra Usó, another of the spokespersons, explained that this march is also held in honor of the fact that “they have been removing mud and cars from the streets from the first day, when no authority had deigned to enter.”

A line of seven tractors, which according to the organizers do not represent any agricultural association, opened the demonstration that this time began in the Plaza de San Agustín, a few meters from the Valencian City Hall, occupied by Christmas activities. At 6:15 p.m., the group made up of relatives, victims and residents of the affected towns finally began to march. Shouting “Mazón resignation”, the column moved towards Plaza América, which borders the Turia River, the final destination of the march.

One of the people leading the protest is Aitana Martínez (21 years old, Catarroja) whose grandfather is one of the fatal victims of the flood. “He drowned at home. “I am here to defend him, so that justice is done and that those responsible pay for what they have done.” Martínez is registered in her grandfather’s house because she practically lived with him. He also says that the aid has not arrived. He remembers when they went to look for him: “We couldn’t access the house because it was full of cars, we entered through a wall that was broken and my grandfather was not at home, the water took him away. We found the body hours later.”

Another of the people holding the sign that opens the march is Alex Carabal (46 years old, Massanassa), a firefighter and affected person. He has worked in the emergency and reconstruction tasks of his own town. You have not yet received any of the help you have requested. “Two months later there are many things to solve in the affected towns,” Carabal denounces.

Investigation

The Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community decided this week that a court will investigate, for the moment, the management of the damage that left a balance of at least 223 deaths in the province of Valencia (231 in total), three missing and more than 80 municipalities affected. The resolution of the Valencian TSJ coincides with the criteria of the Prosecutor’s Office in that, for now, it is not this court that should carry out the investigations into those involved in the emergency, among whom is the president of the Generalitat Mazón, who is certified. It will be in the event that signs of criminality are detected in Mazón’s actions when a reasoned statement will be submitted to the Superior Court of Justice, which is the competent court.

In recent days, Mazón shared with a journalist the day of the torrential rains. Asked about the bill for this meal, Mazón now alleges that it was a meal to which he sat as president of the PP and not of the Valencian Government and that, therefore, the ticket is not subject to the spending transparency rules. public.
