Air crash in South Korea: Rescue teams sift through wreckage

Rescue teams were seen this Monday (30), local time, searching the wreckage of the aircraft that crashed in South Korea.

The killed 179 people on Sunday (29) when a passenger plane crashed and skidded at the end of the runway, exploding when it hit a wall at Muan International Airport.

Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, arriving from the Thai capital Bangkok with 175 passengers and six crew on board, was attempting to land shortly after 9 a.m. local time at the airport in the south of the country, South Korea’s Ministry of Transport said.

Two crewmen survived and were being treated in hospital for injuries.

It was also the worst involving a South Korean airline in nearly three decades, the Transport Ministry said.

The twin-engine Boeing 737-800 was seen in local media video skidding across the runway with no landing gear visible before crashing into navigation equipment and a wall in an explosion of flames and debris.

The landing attempt occurred approximately two minutes after the pilot made the distress call, known as “Mayday”, according to the ministry. .

Black box was recovered

A by the accident investigation committee, while the voice recording device has not yet been recovered, ministry officials concluded in a meeting.
