Air disaster in South Korea: pilot warned of bird attack

A collision with birds would have been the cause of the most tragic plane crash of the year and the biggest of all time in the Asian country.

A South Korea closes 2024 with the biggest air disaster ever in the country. One this Sunday, at Muan airport.

Almost everyone on board died: 179 deadwith only two people surviving (a crew member and a passenger).

In an emergency landing, the pilot was unable to control the plane, crashed with a lot of violence in a seal of concrete and several explosions.

O landing gear failed. The pilot was unable to brake in time to avoid the tragedy.

Shortly after the accident, Muan fire department chief Lee Jeong-hyun said there had been a collision with birdscombined with adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport told journalists that the pilot warned the airport control tower that the plane had suffered a bird attack; and issued a distress calleven before the accident.

The channel adds that the control tower had already warned the plane that it had “bird activity” in that area.

Everything will have happened very quickly, in just a few minutes. With more time, the preparation would have been different, with firefighters at the airport and preparation for a suitable emergency landing.

The plane, a Boeing 737, came from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

Among 200 plane accidents recorded throughout this year (the vast majority without any deaths), this was by far the most serious of 2024. The second deadliest accident was in Brazil, in August, when .
