The fatal victims are tourists from Brazil, Ukraine and the United States. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred in a popular tourist area and one of the iconic places to spend New Year’s Eve.
Three tourists, of Brazilian, Ukrainian and North American nationality, died in a fire at a hotel in the Khao San tourist area in Bangkok, where several guests had to be rescued, it was announced this Monday.
Tourist police said a a 27-year-old Ukrainian and a 35-year-old American died in hospital following a fire that broke out on Sunday night at the six-story The Ember hotel.
In addition, two German tourists, one Japanese, one Chinese and two Thais are hospitalized, Vajira Hospital said in a statement.
The Chinese tourist was found unconscious and is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
The hospital’s emergency room also reported that the fire originated on the fifth floor of the hotel, in room 511, which was completely burned.
Several guests climbed onto the roof to escape the smoke and were rescued with the help of the fire truck’s ladder.
