In theory, the radiators should be vented before the start of the heating season. In practice, however, we do not yet know whether they need it at all. Besides, let’s be honest, we usually only remember things like this when something isn’t working. For example, the radiator does not heat very well or is only half warm.

The most common cause of a malfunctioning radiator is its blockage. You can easily solve this problem yourself. You only need a key for venting the radiator (an 8 mm Allen key can also be used), a container with water and possibly a cloth. You can also perform this operation during the heating season, just remember to turn off the heating.

How do you vent the radiator during the heating season? Step by step

  • After turning the thermostat to 0, wait until the radiator cools down. You can then proceed with venting.
  • After locating the bleed valve (usually located at one end of the radiator, place a container under it. Be prepared for some water to flow.
  • Use the wrench to turn the valve to the left. It is very important to do this slowly, as water and air can escape under high pressure. This will prevent intensive water runoff and possible flooding of the floor.
  • Let all air escape. It won’t take long. The next step is to turn the valve to the right. Now you can turn on the heating. The problem has probably been solved.

However, if the radiator still does not heat up as you would like, you may need to call a professional to check whether it is a damaged installation or a faulty thermostat.
