Claudia Leitte speaks out about the religious racism investigation

The singer Claudia Leitte44, spoke after the Public Ministry of Bahia (MP-BA) opened a inquiry to investigate a possible act of religious racism committed by her.

“. From my place of privilege, this is an issue that must be discussed with due seriousness, and not superficially”, she stated in the early hours of this Monday (30), in a press conference before her show at the Virada Salvador Festivalheld at Arena O Canto da Cidade, on the edge of Boca do Rio.

“I really value respect, solidarity and integrity. We cannot negotiate these values ​​in any way, nor throw them to the internet court. That’s it”, he concluded.

The investigation was initiated after Claudia Leitte changed the name of a song during her performance in Salvador. At that moment, the singer chose not to perform the aforementioned song.

The complaint was made by Iyalorixá Jaciara Ribeiro and the Institute for the Defense of the Rights of Afro-Brazilian Religions (Idafro). The case is being analyzed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to Combat Racism and Religious Intolerance.

The promoter Lívia Sant’Anna Vaz stated that the procedure seeks to investigate the singer’s civil liability for an alleged violation of cultural assets and the rights of religious communities of African origin. The MPBA also evaluates the possibility of criminal liability for the singer.

CNN sought the singer’s advice for a position on the case, but has not received any response so far. The space remains open.
