The Fire Department is searching for a 12-year-old teenager who disappeared after drowning in the Praia Grande resort, in Matinhos, this Sunday afternoon (29). According to firefighters, searches are carried out using boats, drones and a helicopter.
According to information from , the boy was swimming in a spot not protected by lifeguards when he was carried away by the current. The search for the boy then began, with teams carrying out dives near the point where the victim was last seen.

However, after more than an hour of searching, the lifeguards were demobilized from this task, in accordance with rescue protocol. This is because the search with free diving is considered effective in the first 60 minutes after drowning, when the chance of finding the victim alive and the possibility of reversing the drowning situation is greater. Therefore, after this period, searches are continued by sea and air, but without diving.
The season has already seen seven deaths due to drowning on the coast
Since the beginning of Operation Summer, with the activation of lifeguard stations on December 14, firefighters have recorded seven deaths on the coast of Paraná. The three most on Saturday (28). All fatal cases of drowning occurred in places not protected by lifeguards or outside the stations’ opening hours, which are from 8 am to 7 pm.
Therefore, the Fire Department warns vacationers to take due care and respect the guidelines. Entering the sea only in places close to the lifeguard stations, and within the appropriate hours, guarantees everyone’s safety.
