The PlenaMata platform, which carries out detailed analyzes of the progress of deforestation in Brazil, shows that Acre has numbers that are still considered worrying on the subject.
In 2024 alone, across the State, more than 16 million trees have already been cut down – which corresponds to 33 per minute and 47,542 per day.
When the focus is on total deforestation, the affected area is 29,283 hectares – 90% faster than last year.
Data on cut trees was recorded by MapBiomas – a partner of PlenaMata -, a collaborative network, formed by NGOs, universities and technology startups.
The platform also shows that, despite the numbers for 2024, the worst year with the highest rate of deforestation was 2022 (in a series from 2020 to 2024). SEE THE GRAPHIC:
Acre will see a 25% reduction in deforestation in 2024, reveal data released by Marina Silva
The state of Acre obtained positive data in relation to deforestation in the region, going from 601Km² in 2023 to 448Km² in 2024, according to data from the National Institute for Space Research (Inep), obtained via satellite monitoring.
The result corroborates the federal government’s objective, which is to reduce deforestation to zero in Brazilian biomes by the year 2030.
The analysis period for this result runs from August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024, making this one of the state’s best performances in the last five years observed.
Furthermore, the state has met the goals set out in the Plan for Prevention, Control of Deforestation and Fires of the State of Acre, for the years 2023 to 2027.
The positive results can be seen as a positive impact of the creation of the Crisis Office, by governor Gladson Cameli, which aims to develop ways to combat environmental crimes in the state.
