Biden will prepare a state funeral for Jimmy Carter in Washington
The President of the United States of America (USA), Joe Biden, remembered the former North American ruler, who died at the age of 100, as “a man of principles, faith and humility”.
“America and the world have lost an extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian”, reacted the current President of the USA with his wife, Jill, in a statement.
“For all those who seek to know what it means to live a life of purpose and meaning (…) study Jimmy Carter, a man of principles, faith and humility”, he stressed in the same note.
In the same statement, Biden highlighted Carter’s compassion and moral clarity and the former ruler’s work “to eradicate disease, forge peace, advance civil and human rights, promote free and fair elections, house the homeless, and defend the disadvantaged”, highlighting that this should be “an example for others”. Carter “showed that we are a great nation because we are a good people — decent and honorable, courageous and compassionate, humble and strong,” Biden concluded.
The US president also said he will prepare a state funeral for Carter in Washington.
For his part, Donald Trump mourned the death of the former Democratic president to whom he says Americans owe gratitude: “The challenges that Jimmy faced as President came at a crucial time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude,” Trump said on the Truth social network.
“Melania (his wife) and I think fondly of the Carter family and their loved ones at this difficult time,” said Trump, who will take office for a second term on January 20.
