In posts monitored by the police, the suspect wrote that it would be necessary for the authorities to increase security in Brasília ‘by 100 times’ and would ‘finish the mission’ and then leave for ‘the skies’
The Division for Protection and Combating Violent Extremism of the Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF), created at the end of November in response to the attack in Praça dos Três Poderes, made its first arrest this Sunday (29). This weekend’s operation detained a man who announced on his personal profile on social media that he would carry out violent attacks.
According to information from the DF Civil Police, the operation began on Saturday (28), after receiving an anonymous complaint indicating that this man, aged 30 and resident of (CE), made publications on social media announcing violent intentions in the federal capital .
In the posts, he wrote that, for what he intended, it would be necessary for the authorities to increase the security of Brasília “by 100 times” and he would “finish the mission” and then leave for “the skies”. The police began monitoring the suspect’s social media until arresting him this Sunday.
He was found in Bahia hitching a ride on a truck that was heading towards the federal capital, in an operation that had the strategic support of the Air Operations Division of the Civil Police of the Federal District.
The prisoner is now in custody and available to the courts while investigations continue. The suspect’s defense has not yet commented. This is the fourth investigation conducted by the PCDF Combating Violent Extremism Division in just under a month of work and the first arrest made.
The group was created by decree of the governor of the Federal District, on November 21, in response to the attack carried out eight days earlier by Francisco Wanderley Luiz, known as Tiü França, in front of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). “We have to improve our security instruments in the face of this new moment of radicalism,” the governor told Estadão, this Sunday.
After throwing bombs at the headquarters of the Judiciary, Francisco Luiz ended up dying after triggering one of his own explosives. The author of the attack announced his violent intentions in posts on his social media profile and, hours before, visited the Chamber of Deputies. He also left bombs in a car parked in one of the House’s annexes.
Another case in Brasilia
Another incident that occurred this Saturday (28) drew attention in Brasília. A man passed by the Military Police General Command (PMDF) Headquarters saying he had explosives and threatening to detonate them against the headquarters of the PM Command and the Federal Police (PF). He was arrested. No explosives were found on the suspect or in the car he was using.
Police officers who followed the case say that the man appeared to be in a psychotic episode and was therefore sent to a psychiatric hospital. Authorities rule out a relationship between the two cases.
