State deputy Carlos Humberto, one of the main leaders of Santa Catarina, says that the party’s performance in the election in was “a failure” and that he hopes that the party’s current managers will be changed.
“PL participated for 16 years in the administration of Balneário Camboriú, as mayor or deputy. Then, now that they gave the party to the current mayor, he managed to lose the election”, provoked the deputy, who tried to be a candidate for mayor and with his supporters in the city.
The current mayor is Fabrício Oliveira (PL), who was unable to elect his candidate, Peeter Grando (PL).
Due to the fight with the mayor, Carlos Humberto supported Juliana Pavan (PSD), who won with 42.30% of the votes, compared to 38.71% for Grando.
“They failed to change the party’s executive and hand it over to people who were not part of the PL,” said Carlos Humberto. He recalls that the party, led by governor Jorginho Mello, “did very well throughout the state”, capturing 90 city halls among 295 municipalities.
Balneário Camboriú is one of the Brazilian cities most associated with Bolsonarism. In 2022, almost 75% of the city’s electorate voted for Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the second round against Lula (PT).
Asked what the PL would look like in Balneário Camboriú now, Carlos Humberto indicated that the acronym should remain split.
With the largest bench in the City Council, the PL must oppose the elected mayor. Son of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), he was in the city.
On the other hand, Juliana Pavan has already announced Carlos Humberto Silva (DC), who is the father of deputy Carlos Humberto, as her Secretary of Planning and Urban Development.
“There was no rapprochement [após as eleições]. I supported and actively participated in Juliana Pavan’s campaign. PL of Balneário Camboriú no longer exists. It has to change completely. It’s a failure”, attacked the deputy.
Juliana Pavan is the daughter of Leonel Pavan (PSD), who was also elected mayor of Camboriú, a city neighboring Balneário Camboriú. Leonel Pavan is a well-known politician in the state — he was mayor of Balneário Camboriú, state and federal deputy, senator and governor of Santa Catarina.
