A man was arrested this Sunday (29) on suspicion of planning an attack in Brasília.
The investigations began on Saturday (28), after the Division of Protection and Combating Violent Extremism of the DF Civil Police (DPCEV) received anonymous complaints reporting the arrival of an individual in Brasília with the intention of committing violent attacks.
Based on the information received, the police team began monitoring suspect Lucas Leitão Ribeiro, 30, who hitched a ride in a truck heading to the capital, and carried out his temporary arrest, in addition to other legal measures.
The arrest was made in Bahia, close to the border with Goiás. The Civil Police of Bahia, in turn, reported that there was no communication or participation in the aforementioned arrest.
According to preliminary information, the suspect had expressed intentions to carry out attacks in the federal capital with “serious consequences”.
The man is in the custody of the DF Civil Police and is at the disposal of the Justice Department. The investigations continue, with the aim of gathering other elements related to the case.
The Division for Protection and Combating Violent Extremism of the DF Civil Police was created by governor Ibaneis Rocha () after what was committed by Francisco Wanderley Luiz in November of this year. The objective was to create an instance that would act in prevention, so that similar episodes would not occur again.
Upon its creation, two delegates and 23 police officers were designated, in addition to a registry office, technical analysis section, human sources section, investigation section, cyber investigation section and operations section to map attempted attacks in the DF.
