The aftermath of the tragic accident in Novi Sad: The prosecutor’s office charged 13 people, including the ex-minister of transport

On Monday, the Serbian Prosecutor’s Office charged 13 people in connection with the collapse of the shelter at the railway station in Novi Sad including former Minister of Construction and Transport Goran Vesič. “The incident was moved to the higher court in Novi Sad together with the complete documentation collected during the investigation, as well as all other evidence,” clarified the Novi Sad prosecutor’s office in a statement.

The accident in Novi Sad caused large-scale protests, to which students of universities in Belgrade also added.

The railway station in Novi Sad recently underwent extensive reconstruction. The tragedy sparked a wave of criticism and demonstrations continue to this day. Many Serbs believe that the collapse of the shelter, which was part of the facade of the station building, occurred as a result of corruption and non-transparency of construction projects.
