A huge batch of drones takes off from the tiny EU country towards Ukraine

A few days ago, the government of latvia confirmed through his Minister of Defense that he will send a thousand drones in the direction of kyiv, with the aim of arming and helping the invaded country in its mission to expel Russia from its territory.

This information, shared by the head of the Defense portfolio, Andris Sprüds through Facebook, reaffirms Latvia’s support for Ukraine, at a key moment in the conflict as we head towards the end of the third year of war.

Furthermore, the situation in the Latvian country is one of the most compromised and delicate since the Russian invasion began due to its proximity to Moscow and the consequences that this could entail, although ultimately and As the months go by, everything seems to have calmed down, at least as far as Latvia is concerned.

Despite the confirmation of these publications, at the moment it has not been revealed what the delivery period will be. Furthermore, along with those thousand drones, Sprüds also revealed that His government will send an additional 20 million to Ukraine for the purchase of drones throughout 2025.

As if this were not enough, on December 6, the Latvian Saeima (Parliament) gave the green light to the defense budget for 2025, which will be more than 1.5 billion euros, and will include funds for military assistance to Ukraine, something that will be reinforced by the approval to allocate 0.25% of Latvia’s annual GDP to continue helping Ukraine until 2026.

Latvia, a small country but committed to the Ukrainian cause

On the other hand, and despite the small size of the country, Latvia has become one of the great supports for kyiv in its fight against Russia, something that has been evident on numerous occasions, such as when sent a total of 612 vehicles that had been confiscated by the Latvian government from drunk driverswhich added up to a value of 2.25 million euros.

Another initiative – this time popular and supportive – occurred during the month of October, when thousands of Latvian citizens bought and delivered drones to the government. so that it could be sent to the soldiers of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Service.

This initiative was carried out by a public and volunteer figure, Major of the Latvian Armed Forces, Jānis Slaidiņšwho was in charge of sending the donations to the Ukrainian intelligence services. For all this, Latvia has become a great ally of Ukraine since the start of the war, especially for its vulnerability in case Russia can take victory in a war that is now heading into its fourth year.
